| How to Choose a Web Hosting Provider |
When selecting Joomla web hosting, be smart not cheap! When selecting Joomla web hosting do not immediately go with the cheapest hosting provider. It's only human nature to try to save some money here and there. Don't let common sense go out the door on this task. You might find yourself in a world of frustration and headaches with a company that provides no support and doesn't reply to your questions. The worst happened to meSpread the word. Techhosting.com is pure crap. I hope you'll excuse my touch of french, but this is how strongly I feel about this company. They are the lowest of the lows in my opinion. Somehow I get the feeling the there are only two or three cowboys running the show with this new web hosting company -- I get the same guy for billing and support (James). I could write probably ten details pages about my experience with these guys. But, here, I'll try to list them off so that you can get the gist of my experience with them.
Arrggh! I feel my blood pressure rising just writing this. I really don't think this company is going to be around for much longer. Why did this happen to me?I fell victim to Techhosting.com because I was looking for the cheapest hosting provider and not the best web hosting solution. Their price was $3.99 per month. Sure they claimed to support Joomla web hosting but really all I got was an empty shell ... and a charge on my credit card. Oh, and by the way, their servers are setup with the wrong access permissions so correct Joomla web hosting isn't even possible with these guys.Learn from my mistakeDo not think with just your wallet when looking for your Joomla web hosting. Think of the price difference between $3.99 and $5.99 a month -- that's just $24 for the year-- less than what was basically "stolen" from me. $24 dollars is really a small price to pay for a company that has good service. I definitely regret not realizing this before.Do your homeworkResearch actual user reviews, not just some websites that never give any negative insight on particular web hosts. I've seen some cheap web hosting rating and review sites that just restate what is on the frontpage of the hosting company's site to begin with! Instead try to read about actual user experiences. After I had already signed up with Techhosting.com I realized I should have researched user reviews first. And after a quick search, sure enough, I found other people had the same experiences I did! I could have saved myself $$, time, and frustration by doing 20 minutes worth of research. Here are some red flags to alert you of a shady web hosting company:
So what is the best web hosting solution? On the flip side, the best web hosting solution is one that has:
And don't forget, if you are installing Joomla like this website advocates, you'll need look for a couple more Joomla web hosting requirements (most have these anyways, but I'll list them to be sure you are aware of them):
My current choiceMy current Joomla web hosting provider of choice is BlueHost. They have really given me rock solid performance and have even provided decent support when I needed it. Even though they officially do not provide specific Joomla support, the technicians I spoke to were savvy enough to fix my problem which actually turned out to be a configuration problem that I had when moving my site files over from TechHosting (they were still plaguing me - like a virus!).The thing I like about them is that they provide all the items in the checklist. I'm especially happy that they have Fantastico and the correct file permissions setup. This helps so that I don't have to do any extra configuration or hacks in order to get Joomla to work, and with Fantastico I can install Joomla at the click of a button! Nice!
